New Cameras Disappoint

As anticipated, today Nikon announced the D800 which features a 36 megapixel sensor.  I am angry and confused with this announcement.  First, why does this have a larger sensor than their “pro” model D4?  That seems counter-intuitive.   It seems to me that what the geniuses at Nikon have done is convert the D700 from a wonderful enthusiast camera into to a pro model.  And to what end?  So as a D700 owner where is my upgrade path now?  I don’t need, nor do I want 36 megapixels.  And I want a D4 even less.  This is just an initial reaction on my part, so don’t hold me to it, but snowballs have a better chance in hell than I do of getting one of these.

In one of the biggest non-secrets of the year, some images of the new Olympus OM-D are surfacing.  Unless I am mistaken, it looks like every other DSLR, just one without a mirror.  We’ll see after tomorrow, but I’m not very excited by this one either.
