After a few weeks of rumor and speculation, Nikon made it official today and formally announced the D700. This time the rumor-mongers got it right. This photographer’s fantasy has the guts of a D3 with a few extras like built-in flash and sensor cleaning. And you won’t have to wait months for it. The D700 will be available July 25th (otherwise known as Nikon Friday). You get all of this for the reasonable price of $2,999.00. Sure it’s more expensive than a Canon 5D, but it has a lot of features the 5D doesn’t and there’s no 6D yet. Even if you are unsure, I would strongly suggest that you get on a waiting list as soon as possible since this is the DSLR a lot of folks have been waiting for. Trust me, I’m sure your camera store won’t have any problem selling it to someone further down the list. I’m number 2. Read all about this uber-DSLR here and here, then get on someone’s list.
